Flocking
AM are specialists in electrostatic flocking. Having many years experience within the motorsport industry AM has been able to improve and perfect many bespoke techniques in the process ensuring the best quality finishes at a consistent level. All flocking work undertaken by AM is firstly prepped, this includes degreasing, smoothing/trimming/reinforcing/priming (when required) The parts are then treated to a special adhesive which has been developed solely for flocking as it has essential conductive properties. The parts are then laid up within the flocking booth. This is essentially a special enclosed room which is only used for flocking.
This is an essential attribute to the process and what sets AM out from the rest. As the nature of Electrostatics is static attraction, once an item is charged, everything within the close proximity is attracted to it in exactly the same was as dust to a television. It is paramount that the surrounding atmosphere contains no foreign bodies or particles as this will contaminate the flocked items. Using a flocking booth eliminates this hazard. Once the parts have been flocked they are then left to settle before being cured under radiant heat. The reason we use radiant lamps as opposed to a conventional oven is the requirement of keeping the surrounding atmosphere perfectly still. Conventional ovens and fan heaters move the air surrounding the flocked parts which will cause the flock to cure unevenly.
This can cause the flocked parts so appear patchy and darker in some areas. Again this is not an issue with our method and all flocked parts cure evenly giving a very high quality finish.
AM can offer pretty much any colour you desire in various lengths from .5mm to 1.5mm. If you have a bespoke colour simply send us a swatch and we can get a colour match made up as a one off.
GRP, Carbon & Kevlar Composite Parts
A lot of our customer run bespoke cars which require many parts which are unique and not available off the shelf. AM can provide replica parts of custom parts in either high grade GRP, Carbon Fibre of Kevlar. All composite parts are created using wet-lay up and only uv resistant, high temp epoxy resins are used. This is essential when doing bonnets and exterior panels as the finish can become dull and greyed id cheap resins are used. Under no circumstances do we use polyester resins for exterior panels as it is prone to hairline cracks and is not uv resistant.
A lot of composite parts on the market state they are carbon fibre, for example many so called carbon fibre bonnets are actually a mix of both carbon and GRP. The top layer of the bonnet will be carbon but the underneath will be a matt black colour indicating the manufacturer has simply used a cheap fibreglass under skin.
Ours are 100% carbon!
Sand Blast Cleaning
AM have the facility to blast clean any engine part you desire from small intricate engine components to kit car frames. Sand blasting is the best way to removing paint or unwated items from any metal surface, the end result is a smooth, pure finish which is ready for painting, priming welding etc.
Powder Coating
Using the latest in Electrostatic Powder Equipment AM can offer powder coating of all sorts of components from engine mounts to alloy wheels. Using specialist techniques we can offer a high quality service at a very affordable price. AM uses both radiant and element ovens, radiant curing is used when powder coating object where the integrity of the structure must be retained. A good example of this is alloy wheels. If alloy wheels are cured in traditional ovens there is a danger that the structural integrity of the alloy is compromised after being heated then cooled, as the radiant oven only heats the surface there is no danger of the alloy structure becoming weak and prone to fractures.
